2026-07 Public Reprimand of Michael Adam Techmeier

Attorney Michael Adam Techmeier (Techmeier) was admitted to the practice of law in Wisconsin on June 28, 2016, State Bar No. 1094048.
On June 7, 2022, Cedarburg police officers were alerted to a vehicle with its hazard lights activated blocking traffic. When the officers approached the vehicle, Techmeier, who was sitting in the driver's seat, told them that he had clipped the curb. When Techmeier exited the vehicle, he stumbled and walked with an unsteady gait as he moved toward the rear of the vehicle. Techmeier exhibited clues of impairment while performing field sobriety tests, and the officers placed him under arrest. The officers transported Techmeier to a hospital for a blood draw.
On December 16, 2022, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Mequon police and fire departments were dispatched to Techmeier's place of employment for a possible overdose. An officer located a baggie of what they believed to be illegal narcotics on Techmcicr's person. Techmeier was placed under arrest and transported to a hospital. The baggie contents tested positive for the presence of fentanyl. The total weight of fentanyl recovered was 4.6 grams.
On December 19, 2022, Techmeier was charged with possession of narcotic drugs, contrary to sec. 961.41(3g)(am), Wis. Stats.
On June 16, 2023, Cedarburg police officers received the laboratory report regarding Techmeier's June 7, 2022 blood draw, which showed the presence of prescription medications and a reported value of fentanyl 6.2ng/mL.
On June 29., 2023, Techmeier was charged with misdemeanor OWI (2nd). State vs. Techmeier, Ozaukee County case no. 23CT222.
On May 6, 2024, in the possession case, the court approved the parties' deferred prosecution agreement (DPA). Techmeier completed the DPA, and the possession case was dismissed on May 6, 2025.
On July 14, 2025, in case no. 23CT222, pursuant to a no contest plea, Techmeier was convicted of misdemeanor OWJ (2nd). The court sentenced him to serve to 60 days in jail. His sentence included driver's license revocation for 16 months, ignition interlock for 16 months, admission to an AODA assessment, and payment of a fine and costs.
Fly engaging in conduct leading 10 his being charged with the criminal act of possession of narcotic drugs, contrary to sec. 961.41(3g)(am), Wis. Stats., Techmeier violated SCR 20:8.4(b), which states, "It is professional misconduct for a lawyer to ... commit a criminal act that reflects adversely on the lawyer's honesty, trustworthiness or fitness as a lawyer in other respects."
By engaging in conduct leading to a conviction of misdemeanor OWI (2nd) in State vs. Techmeier, Ozaukee County case no. 23CT222, Techmeier again violated SCR 20:8.4(b).
Techmeier has no prior discipline, timely reported his conviction pursuant to SCR 21.15(5), and cooperated with OLR. Techmeier presented as mitigating circumstances a personal tragedy that occurred in early 2022, and completion of inpatient and outpatient recovery programs in 2023. No allegation of client harm was made.
In accordance with SCR 22.09(3), Attorney Michael Adam Techmeier is hereby publicly reprimanded.
