Attorney Steven D. Johnson, age 40, is an
attorney licensed in the State of Wisconsin
since 2005. Attorney Johnson practices in
Appleton, Wisconsin.
On April 30, 2009, Attorney Johnson was
charged with one count of Physical Abuse of
a Child, Intentionally Cause Bodily Harm, in
violation of section 948.03(2)(b) Stats., a
Class H Felony, relating to an incident
occurring at Johnson’s home on April 27,
2009 involving Attorney Johnson’s 12-year-
old son.
On September 4, 2009, Attorney Johnson pled
no contest to an amended charge of one count
of Child Abuse-Recklessly Cause Harm,
contrary to section 948.03(3)(b), Stats., a
Class I Felony.
On September 4, 2009, Attorney Johnson was
sentenced to two years Probation, sentence
withheld, with the following conditions:
(a) counseling, testing, and treatment as
recommended for Anger Management & AODA and
compliance with those recommendations; (b)
payment of fees and follow rules of
supervision; (c) submit DNA sample and pay
fee; (d) no contact with Attorney Johnson’s
former spouse; (e) contact with minor son
only through Family Court Orders; and (f)
compliance with all Family Court Orders.
Attorney Johnson was also ordered to pay
court costs including a DNA analysis
surcharge totaling $675.00.

By engaging in acts leading to a conviction
of one count of Child Abuse-Recklessly
Causing Harm, a Class I Felony, Attorney
Johnson violated SCR 20:8.4(b), which
states, “It is professional misconduct for a
lawyer to . . . commit a criminal act that
reflects adversely on the lawyer’s honesty,
trustworthiness, or fitness as a lawyer in
other respects.”

Attorney Johnson received a consent private
reprimand on August 8, 2008 for a violation
of SCR 20:8.4(b) that followed his entry of
a no contest plea to a charge of misdemeanor
battery that stemmed from a domestic
incident involving an adult that occurred on
August 27, 2007. Attorney Johnson has no
other prior discipline.
In accordance with SCR 22.09(3), Attorney
Stephen D. Johnson is hereby publicly
reprimanded.
